The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is one of Nepal's most remote and comprehensive high-altitude trekking journeys, circumnavigating the magnificent Kanchenjunga massif in the far-eastern Himalaya. At 8,586 metres, Mount Kanchenjunga is the world's third-highest mountain and one of the great Himalayan giants. The mountain's name derives from the Tibetan/Sikkimese expression associated with the "Five Treasures of the Great Snow," referring to its five principal summits.

Unlike a conventional base-camp trek, the complete circuit provides an opportunity to experience both the northern and southern approaches to Kanchenjunga. The northern route follows the Ghunsa–Kambachen–Lhonak valley to Pangpema (5,143 m), where the enormous northern face of Kanchenjunga dominates the landscape. After returning toward Ghunsa, the trail turns south and crosses the high Sele La pass system, linking the northern and southern valleys before continuing toward Ramche and Oktang (approximately 4,730 m) on the Yalung Glacier side.

The trek then descends through Tortong, Yamphudin and Khebang, eventually returning to the eastern lowlands.

This is a true wilderness journey combining high Himalayan landscapes, glaciers, dramatic mountain walls, traditional mountain communities, rhododendron forests and one of Nepal's least commercialised trekking environments.

The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area covers approximately 2,035 km² and extends toward both the Indian and Chinese borders. Its biodiversity includes red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, blue sheep and musk deer, together with extensive rhododendron and orchid species.
