The Pagoda style Muktinath Temple is the popular Vishnu temple, a sacred place symbol of the religion for both Hindus and Buddhists located in Muktinath Valley at an altitude of 3,800m. at the foot of the Thorong-La mountain pass in Mustang, Nepal. It is also one of 108 Vaishnava shrines. Here in the early 19th century the Hindus consecrated a Vishnu Temple and named it Muktinath - Lord of Liberation. Against a backdrop of incredible starkness, you can sit and stare at the south, the snow-covered Annapurna range, or to the north, the Tibetan plateau. located at the first highest altitude in the world. Muktinath this Sanskrit name itself has religious overtones and a sort of emotional ring to it for the devout Hindus. The name is a synthesis of two words - (the provider of salvation) has been one such holy site, where thousands of devotees flock for attaining the much sought after moksha (Freedom) from the cycle of birth and rebirth. It is an ardent wish or a dream if you may say, of every Hindu to get Mukti-Nirvana from this cycle taking births over and over again. It is a belief of the Hindus that this world is "MAYA" (an illusion) and the earliest one gets out of it the better and a visit to Muktinath will help them achieve that goal. Since then it is called Muktinath. The Hindus call it Muktichhetra (place of salvation) , one of the four religious sites. Many Shaligrams (Ammonite) found during Muktinath Yatra over here are considered by Hindu as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and worship them. According to Hindu Myth lord Vishnu turned into Shaligram because of Brinda's Curse. Muktinath Temple is open throughout the year but especially in Rishitarpani, Ram Navami, and Bijay Dashami thousands of pilgrims gather here to celebrate the festival. During the festival of Janai Purnima, Hindu devotees gather here to pay homage to lord Muktinath. Another famous temple of Jwaladevi, the goddess of flame, is situated about hundred meters south of Muktinath. The eternal flame that has been burning inside the temple continuously since time immemorial and this temple draws both Hindus and Buddhists pilgrims alike. Black amniote fossils, thought as the embodiment of Lord Vishnu, are found in abundance in the area and pilgrims travel long distances over rugged trails to collect these.

The Muktinath Yatra trip package commences with either driving (206 km & takes 7/8 hrs) or flying (25 mins) from Kathmandu to Pokhara. On the way, visit Manakamana Devi Temple via Cable Car Ride (15-20 mins). Next day, either drive (175 km & takes 6/7 hrs) or fly (15 mins) to Jomsom. Afterward, drive to Ranipauwa (20 km & takes 1 hr) and hike for half an hour to reach up to the temple. Visit an ancient sacred Muktinath Temple, take a holy bath in 108 waterspouts & two holy Kunda (ponds) then follow the same route back to Kathmandu.

Muktinath Temple word is derived from Mukti and Nath. "Mukti" (Salvation or Nirvana) and "Nath" (God or Master). Mukti Holds great significance for all spiritual people in the south Asian Subcontinent.
