Pokalde Peak, located in the Khumbu region approximately 14 kilometers southwest of Mount Everest, is one of the popular tourist peaks in Nepal. Also known as Dolma Ri, it can be trekked without the need for ice axes and crampons. First climbed in 1953 via a route from the 'Kongma-La' pass, which lies at an elevation of 5,535m along its North-ridge, Pokalde Peak has attracted climbers from around the world.
Despite its relatively modest altitude, the first successful climbers of Pokalde Peak were prominent figures in the mountaineering community, a testament to the allure of many trekking peaks. When viewed from Pheriche, Pokalde appears as an unremarkable mountain, dominated by the imposing bulk of Nuptse. However, from Labuche or Gorak Shep, the peak presents a more captivating profile.
Located to the south of the Khongma-La pass at 5,535m, an infrequently traversed pass leading into the Chukhung Valley, Pokalde Peak features a northern side adorned with a small hanging glacier. This glacier is best accessed along the ridge rising from the Khongma-La.
