The Saribung Pass Trek is a challenging and physically demanding trekking trail, well-known for its difficult pass in Nepal. Situated in the remote north of the Mustang region, within the Damodar Himal near the border of China (Tibet), it was newly discovered in 2006. The trek leads to the Saribung Pass (6328m), offering one of the most breathtaking high Himalayan passes.

Starting from the barren and wild terrain east of Luri, the trail heads southwards to the Damodar Kund Lake, a significant pilgrimage site of Shiva. From the lake, the ascent becomes intense, often traversing snow and ice fields, leading to the Saribung Pass. Along the trek, travelers have the opportunity to explore various local villages, picturesque mountains, monasteries, and experience the rich Tibetan culture, tradition, and religion.

Although the trek is relatively straightforward for mountaineers, it presents numerous challenges, including icy passes and crevasses between the Damodar Kunda region and the Nar-Phu valley. Crossing the Saribung La Pass offers adventurous souls the chance to traverse high mountain passes covered in snow and explore remote valleys situated between Damodar Kunda and Nar-Phu Valley.

The trek cuts through rugged trails and ancient Buddhist villages, offering a unique glimpse into lands seemingly forgotten by time. Passing through small villages that have changed little over the centuries, the route crosses several high passes, including the De Hults Pass (6,225m), before descending into the Annapurna region.

Beginning the trek from the culturally-rich Buddhist region of Upper Mustang in a clockwise direction, starting from Jomsom and following the Upper Mustang trail, the route descends to the remote Nar-Phu valley and concludes at Besisahar, before joining the Annapurna Circuit trail trek.

Alternatively, the trek can be completed in an anti-clockwise direction, starting from Phu, ascending to the Saribung Pass, entering the Mustang "Concealed Valley" or “Hidden Kingdom of Nepal,” and then returning to Jomsom. The views from the top of Saribung La are spectacular, offering trekkers an unforgettable experience amidst diverse landscapes, cultures, and geographical variations throughout the journey.
