A New Milestone in the Khumbu: First Ascent of Mt. Luza by Xtreme Climbers Team

History was created on December 17, 2020, as Xtreme Climbers made the First Ascent of Mt Luza (5,726m) located in the Khumbu region. A little past 12:15 am, the experienced Sherpas Lhakpa Gyaljen, Pemba Sherpa, and Urken Sherpa stood atop this virgin mountain drawing an end to an era. Untouched before, but as the track is trodden now it bears witness to their legacy of putting effort, skills, and enthusiasm for mountaineering.

The Unclimbed Peak of Mt. Luza

Mt. Luza is located in the Khumbu region at an elevation of 5,726 meters above sea level. This pyramidal peak was virgin until December 16, 2020, and was among those unclimbed summits of Nepal. The previously snow-covered mountain now shows more rocky exposures due to climate change. The mountain is in the same range as the holy Khumbi Yulha, continuing north toward Machermo Peak.

It wasn't just about making a first ascent in Mt. Luza, but about exploring new routes and bringing down shots of the beauties and challenges the peak has to offer. Our Sherpa team descended safely back to base camp after their successful summit, where they would be exploring new routes further and sharing what they found, giving valuable insight into the mountaineering community.

This historic expedition was funded by Xtreme Climbers Pvt. Ltd. which is aligned with our corporate social responsibility to promote new climbing routes and create a deeper interest in mountaineering among the youth. We also believe that there is no better way to connect humanity with nature than climbing the mightiest peaks in The Himalayas, and we want to inspire the next generation by fostering this. Supporting them with complete financial assistance, logistics, and managing the entire expedition from scratch we dream to provide a platform for young climbers who wish to pursue their passion of climbing on new horizons and exploring unknown territories.
